Empowering Furry Friends through Crowdfunding for Pets

Crowdfunding for pets is a popular and compassionate way for individuals, organizations, and communities to raise funds to support the well-being, medical treatment, or special needs of animals.

There are many reasons to use animal crowdfunding platforms, but most often animal owners look for funding to cover vet expenses or support the special needs of their pets. For example, the annual cost of having a pet exceeds $1,000 and that is excluding one-time expenses such as spaying/neutering or carriers.

When an emergency happens, many pet owners cannot afford the costs to treat their furry friends. In such cases, they can try crowdfunding for pets.

Along with individuals, companies also run crowdfunding campaigns for additional funding. For example, shelters can ask for donations to be able to cover the needs of animals living there. Companies that work on developing and manufacturing pet products and food can try to get funding in reward-based or equity-based crowdfunding campaigns.

Here, we will explore several use cases of crowdfunding for pets, what campaigns can be launched, and how fundraisers use money to improve facilities or lives of furry friends.

Bow Wow Labs, an equity crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder

Bow Wow Labs is an inventor and manufacturer of life-protecting products for dogs. The company is best known for its Bow Wow Buddy, a device that secures long-term chews thus helping to prevent dogs from choking.

The company’s story started when the founder’s border collie choked on a bully stick-end. This sad story led to the development of Bully Buddy, the funds for which were raised in a reward-based campaign on Kickstarter in 2018.

This time, the company was raising funds in December 2023 on Wefunder in an equity-based campaign

The campaign’s aim was to enable retailers, distributors, partners, and all interested people to invest in the company’s mission and growth. Along with it, the campaign was expected to provide the needed resources to upgrade Bow Wow Buddy and to launch a new type of chew for dogs – the Epic Chew.

The Epic Chew is designed to be highly palatable, rich in proteins, and low in fat. It is highly digestible and gluten- and grain-free. This chew will be present in multiple varieties, each infused with all the necessary supplements, antioxidants, and vitamins to support a dog’s nervous system, cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal system, and more.

Bow Wow’s equity campaign was fully funded and raised $536,811 from 190 investors.

Omni Pet, an equity-based crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs

Omni Pet is a company that produces delicious, healthy patient-friendly dog food. The products are developed by vets and scientists to match dogs of all ages and types.

The company was running an equity-based campaign on Seedrs to ensure its further growth and expansion.

Luna, a donation-based crowdfunding campaign on Waggle

Crowdfunding for pets is not limited to crowdfunding pet products only. Many pet owners cannot afford vet expenses for their furry friends. In such cases, crowdfunding websites for pet medical expenses come to help, just like it happened with Luna.

The donation-based crowdfunding campaign was launched on Waggle by Luna’s owner to raise funds for the dog’s surgery.

After adopting Luna, her owner was moving to a new house when Luna decided to jump out of the moving car. The dog ended up with a fracture in her left rear femur. It required a 5-day long stay in a hospital for surgery. Further, the dog would require 4 rounds of physical therapy which would also cost money.

The owner was not ready for such expenses, but the campaign was 100% funded with $1,355 raised from 15 donors including Greater Good Charities that matched 100% of each donation. This all helped Luna to receive the much-needed surgery.
