LenderKit at EU-Startups Summit Malta 2025: Industry Connections and Insights from CrowdCon

In late April, 2025, we attended the EU-Startups Summit in Valletta, Malta — a major event that gathered more than 2,400 founders, investors and ecosystem players from across Europe. This year marked an interesting shift for the European crowdfunding community, as CrowdCon — traditionally its own standalone event — was integrated into the broader EU-Startups Summit agenda.

We’ve attended every CrowdCon since 2019 to stay in tune with the evolution of the EU crowdfunding space, and this year was no exception. The new format, led by EUROCROWD, placed crowdfunding within the wider startup finance conversation, bringing it closer to mainstream funding discussions — a positive step in our view.

Key takeaways

One of the standout sessions for us was “Equity Crowdfunding: Dos & Don’ts”, which gathered practitioners, platform operators and policy voices to discuss trends and practical aspects of running compliant, effective platforms. It’s clear that there is ongoing momentum around harmonising the EU regulatory landscape, but also a recognition that platforms must remain innovative and flexible to serve both startups and investors.

Another valuable element was the cross-sector exchange the Summit enabled. By placing CrowdCon inside the larger event, there was more interaction between crowdfunding professionals and a wider audience of VCs, angel investors and founders — helping bridge gaps and foster a more integrated funding ecosystem. This aligns with what we see in our daily work: crowdfunding and alternative finance are increasingly becoming part of multi-channel capital strategies, not stand-alone efforts.

We also appreciated EUROCROWD’s emphasis on maintaining visibility for the sector while encouraging cross-sector learning. The location — Valletta’s historic Fort St. Elmo — provided an inspiring backdrop for these discussions.

Our perspective moving forward

As providers of white-label software for online investment and crowdfunding platforms, we closely track how regulation, investor expectations, and platform business models are evolving across Europe. The discussions at the Summit reinforced the importance of building solutions that can flex with market needs — particularly around compliance, cross-border capabilities, and hybrid investment models.
